All you need to about Gift Aid
What is gift aid?
The gift aid scheme allows charities such as St John’s and St Josephs to reclaim tax made by UK taxpayers from HM Revenue and Customs. This means that for every £1.00 you donate to St John’s or St Josephs, we will receive £1.25 in total without costing you any extra.
How does it Work?
All you have to do is complete and sign a gift aid declaration form which is available at the back of the church or from the office. When you return it to us we can gift aid on all your donations made during the last 4 years and all future donations, you only need to fill the form in once.
This form confirms you are a UK taxpayer and that all the monies claimed back by all charities you support will not exceed the amount of tax you have paid during the year. This can be in the form of Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax.
Am I eligible to Gift Aid?
You are eligible if:
You are a UK taxpayer and pay income or capital gains tax and
The tax you pay is at least equal to the amount being claimed on all your charitable donations who you gift aid to.
How can I donate?
You can donate by standing order, using the contactless machine at the back of the churches or by a weekly offering envelope which we can provide these for you.
I’m retired!
You can still gift aid your donations provided you have paid enough tax during the year to cover the amount we reclaim on your donations. Some retirees may have a small occupational pension which will be liable to tax.
Keep your records up to date.
It is important that you let us know if you stop paying tax or if you do change your name and address so we can update our record. You can email us at [email protected] or call 01295 262073 and leave a message.
